Moore, Robin - The Green Berets
Robin Moore - born on October 31st 1925 in Boston in very reach family (his father co-founded the Sheraton Hotel Chain), Staff Sergeant in the US Army Air Corps (serving as a B17 nose gunner during World War II), writer - author of French Connection (yes - base on this book movie with Gene Hackman was made) and The Green Berets. He died on February 21st 2008.
Having The White House's accord on writing a book about U.S. Special Forces only one thing was still missing: approval of a representative of Special Warfare Center in Fort Bragg. Much to his surprise he found out they have nothing opposite except one request: he has to finish training in Fort Bragg like each candidate for Green Beret...
And the Author's memories about those training first in Fort Benning then in Fort Bragg filled the first pages of the book. The rest is a novel - like Author said only this way he could tell a lot of true stories not exposing anybody for risk of revealing and not reveal any military secret.
The book was published almost in 3.5 million copies and the movie with John Wayne was made base on it.
During the writing of the book Robin Moore met General Yarborough - Commander of Special Warfare Center - and they soon became friends. That's the reason for the signatures on the book...
Copy of the book on the photos was published in 1965 and it is the first edition (pages are not cutted but teared...).
